Babywearing Education
"The Art of Teaching is the Art of Assisting Discovery"
~Mark Van Doren.
I love this quote and it permeates all aspects of my
interactions with new and experienced parents. As a parent you know your child better than anyone else, therefore to facilitate that discovery between parent and child is what matters the most to me.
Babywearing benefits :
1. Happy Babies: Babies who are in close proximity with parents or caregivers,(babywear promotes that) cry less because parents or caregivers can respond to his/ her needs quite quickly. Researchers found that babywearing for 3hrs a day reduce infant crying by 43% overall and 54% during evening hours.
2. Healthy Babies: Babies born prematurely or with special needs require special attention and care and need be in close proximity to their caregiver or parents Babywearing can facilitate that. They are in tune with the parent's/caregiver's rhythm, breathing, the sound of their hearts and the movement they make by walking, bending and reaching. This proximity helps them regulate their own physical response.
3. Confident Parent/Caregiver: A large part of feeling confident as a parent/caregiver is the ability to read your baby or child’s cues successfully. Having he/she close in a carrier allows you as a parent/caregiver to become attuned to their movements, gestures and facial expressions. Every time a baby's/child's need is met by a parent/caregiver, the baby's/child's trust in you is enhanced and your confidence is reinforced. This cycle of positive interaction deepens the mutual attachment between you.
4. Loving Caregiver: Babywearing is one of the opportunities for fathers, grandparents, adoptive parents, babysitters to bond with the baby/child under their care. Imagine an adoptive parent or grandparent going for a walk with the baby/child in a carrier. The baby/child becomes used to the caregiver voice, heartbeat, movements and facial expressions and the two are forging a strong bond. Cuddling up and close in a carrier is a wonderful way to get to know your baby/child and them to get to know you!
